Gears of War III: Armored Kantus
For DragonCon 2015 I had the chance to go a little nutty and attempt a fairly involved build. As I had never built anything with EVA foam, I thought it might be a good opportunity to jump into the deep end and learn how to swim once I got there. I was never a huge fan of the Gears of War franchise but after seeing the reference art for this particular critter, the Armored Kantus, I knew I had to take a shot at it.
The entire suit was fabricated from various thicknesses and grade of EVA foam except for the detailing bolts and the teeth. The bolts were molded and cast urethane while the teeth were digitally modeled, 3d-printed, and then prepped and painted. The spines on the head and back consist of a stack of 3 laser cut EVA sheets and at final count number at nearly 300.
